Beyond Tomorrow
This 1940 film, a black & white drama directed by A. Edward Sutherland,
co-stars Harry Carey, C. Aubrey Smith and Charles Winninger. When three
rich executives of an engineering firm, Melton, Chadwick and O'Brien,
invite two young strangers, James and Jean, to dinner on a cold New York
City Christmas Eve, a series of unlikely events occur. The two strangers
fall in love and become friends with their dinner hosts; that is, until
their benefactors are killed in a plane crash. As the two young lovers
encounter some rough spots, the three come back to their old home as
ghosts and look after the two. What these three missed in life, they share
with young romance. (84 min.)
Scrooge
Seymour Hicks and Donald Calthrop co-star in this 1935 black and white
Christmas classic directed by Henry Edwards. In this straightforward
adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel, Ebenezer Scrooge, the ultimate cruel
and despicable miser, can't stand the thought of Christmas, though his
clerk, Bob Cratchit, and his nephew, Fred, are full of holiday spirit.
However, Scrooge has a change of heart when he is visited in the night by
three spirits. (60 min.)
